A Bi, Filipina artist in Tkaronto’s West End — Maddie has made her mark as Canadian theatre’s ever-playful sound designer and performance creator.

In the daytime, you can catch Maddie creating and shaping sound in iconic theatres across the country – from composing original music in the earliest stages of new work development, to tuning systems with live musicians and mid-sized casts.

Her composition work takes herself and listeners across the bounds of genre and form. Her hands are dirty with the creation of new musicals, such as Noche Buena with Jennifer Villaverde. She directed and wrote for a 20-person choir for an outdoor Shakespeare play. She loops her voice and piano live for an rock-opera on yellow fever. She combines lush, orchestral sound with recorded and gifted Tagalog song.

After the sun goes down, she moonlights as half of xLq – a queer pop performance duo who toured across the country with their daring, interactive theatre… and bizarre, grungy drag.

While she is not creating, Maddie is an educator. She is a big fan and alumni of the Paprika Festival where she is currently facilitating the Creators’ Unit with xLq.

Maddie thrives in projects and teams where she can braid her keenness and delight for out-of-the-box audience experiences, her unapologetic love for pop music, and her pursuit to strengthen the camaraderie of all the artists and workers who call theatre home.
